Rams make history winning program-record 19-consecutive games with win over Spartans

4/5/2019 7:59:00 PM | Softball

Colorado State surpassed the record which was set in 1989.

Rams 5, Spartans 2 | Box Score

SAN JOSE, Calif. – History was made again Friday afternoon as the Colorado State softball team won its 19th consecutive game with a 5-2 win at San Jose State. The Rams improve their record season, sitting at 28-4 overall and 10-0 in the Mountain West – the most overall wins since 2017 and matches last season's MW wins.

STAT OF THE GAME
The Rams' pitching staff was solid despite allowing seven hits, forcing the Spartans to leave eight runners on base.

NOTES
- Danni Klein and Tara Shadowen tallied a pair of hits, including Shadowen recorded two RBI
- The Rams tallied four extra-base hits, including three doubles
- Jessica Jarecki (11-1) earned the win after starting the game hurling 4 1/3 inning allowing just two earned runs
- Bridgette Hutton (1) earned her first save of the season closing the final 2 2/3 frames striking out three batters

Colorado State scored first in the top of the third after Tara Shadowen hit her sixth homer of the season with two outs and bases empty. San Jose State took the lead in the bottom of the fourth after leading the frame off with a single before a pair of doubles scored two runs.

The Rams retook the lead in the fifth after scoring four runs on five hits. CSU nearly went down in order before Shadowen doubled to left before a Spartan error prolonged the inning and scored a run. Colorado State continued to score on a single and two doubles to lead 5-2.

San Jose State loaded the bases in the home-half of the inning with one out, but Bridgette Hutton came in on relief and recorded the final two outs to get off the field. Both teams finished the game going down in order, with an exception of a Spartan walk in the final inning.
