Ram Offensive Attack Sinks Crusaders, 3-0

CSU Improves to 5-1-1

VALPARAISO, Ind. – Wasting little time, the Colorado State women's soccer team used two first half goals to power past Valparaiso, 3-0, Friday evening at Brown Field.

The Rams extended the program's best start to a 5-1-1 record and now are one win away from tying the most wins in school history. A two-goal night for sophomore forward Kristen Noonan plus a collegiate first score from freshman forward Caroline Lucas locked up the Rams win.

Although the Rams struck first, the Crusaders had the game's first shot, which wound up in the hands of the reigning Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week, Gabi McDonald. From there it was all Colorado State.

In the 14th minute, Noonan scored off a pinball Ram exchange. Ironically the sequence started with a nifty behind the back pass from Noonan to sophomore forward Gracie Armstrong who fired a shot that was deflected off of the Valparaiso goalie. Freshman forward Liv Layton had the rebound chance blocked, same with Armstrong who then dished it back to Noonan for the finish in the top right of the net.

The often scorer, Caeley Lordemann, showcased her ball skills in the 29th minute by feeding a speedy Lucas for the game's second goal. Lucas, of Lewisville, Texas, beat her opponent, and received the perfectly laid pass to get one-on-one with the Crusader goalie. Georgia Henkel came out of the net to block it but couldn't corral it, leaving Lucas to clean up for her first score in a Ram uniform.

For the third time this season, Colorado State went into the half with the lead. Soon Noonan would tack onto that.

Off an Armstrong corner kick in the 63rd minute, the 5-foot-11 Noonan got the ball at its highest point and headed into the net from the center box. It marked the second Armstrong-Noonan connection of the game. Coincidentally it was their fourth goal and fourth assist, respectively, for each this season.

The offensive front kept the Rams defense fresh all night. McDonald had three saves on eight Valparaiso shots.  To the contrary, the Rams offense sprayed 14 shots with eight on target.

Game Notes

NEW RECORD*: Senior defender Halley Havlicek logged 73 minutes passing and extending the Colorado State all-time record for minutes played. Havlicek entered the contest trailing Janelle Stone (2014-17; 5,517 MIN) by 39 minutes. At the conclusion of the game, Havlicek totals 5,551 minutes played as a Ram with at least 12 games to play.

Spreading the Minutes: A season high 20 players clocked into the game for Colorado State

Lordemann's First Assist: Senior forward Caeley Lordeman entered the game with the school record in career points with 26 - all from goals. The assist Friday night marked her first as a Ram, upping her career points to 27.
