FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A surge of nine consecutive victories has led to upward mobility in the rankings for Colorado State, as the Rams jumped five spots to No. 17 in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll.
It is the highest the team has been in the poll since sitting 13th the final poll of the 2015 regular season (Nov. 30), finishing the season at No. 23. The Rams were ranked as high as No. 9 that year and peaked at No. 7 in 2014.
Unranked in the preseason, the Rams had a run of three sweeps in a row over ranked teams (No. 22 Florida State, two against No. 19 Colorado), propelling them into the AVCA rankings. A trio of victories this week puts the team at 10-1 as they head into Mountain West play. Only Purdue made a bigger jump in the AVCA rankings this week, rising six spots to No. 15 from No. 21.
The Rams open with a home match at Moby Arena on Thursday against New Mexico (7 p.m.).
