Team won’t be back in state until March
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – While the team won't host a home dual for more than a month, Colorado State's women's tennis team will spend the second consecutive match close to home, giving supporters a chance to see the team in action.
Friday, the Rams will face in-state rival Colorado in Boulder, with play beginning at 2 p.m. It is the second of nine road matches to begin the spring slate. The Rams opened dual play with a narrow 4-3 loss to Gonzaga, a performance coach Jarod Camerota believes his team can build upon as they start playing with regularity.
"We need to continue to play good doubles and continue to compete hard," he said. "We also need to continue to believe. Each player can really see what their patterns are that work for them, and they can keep doing them over and over and feel comfortable doing them under pressure in a match situation."
The Rams picked up a point in doubles play against the Bulldogs as the pairings of Stella Cliffe/Emily Luetschwager and Priscilla Palermo/Alyssa Grijalva both won in impressive fashion. In singles play, both Luetschwager and Palermo picked up victories, giving them 10 and nine, respectively, on the year. Already with 50 career singles win as a junior, Luetschwager is five away from cracking the top-10 all time in program history.
Colorado is 2-0 to begin the dual season, including a 4-2 victory over Fresno State.
The Rams will be out of the state after this dual until returning home to host Northern Colorado on March 14. With that in mind, Camerota hopes to see the crowd mirror what it was like in 2017 when the team last played in Boulder.
"We're looking to have a good crowd," Camerota said. "Two years ago, we had a much bigger crowd than the home team, and we're looking to do the same this year."
