Rams Continue Action in California

PUERTO VALLARTA COLLEGE CHALLENGE
Colorado State will continue non-conference action this week at the Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose, Calif., hosted by San Jose State. The Rams will play five games across three days at Spartan Softball Field.

The Rams will begin the tournament on Friday with a rematch against California Baptist at 10 a.m., MT and playing Cal Poly at 12:30 p.m., MT. CSU will continue action on Saturday facing Yale at 10 a.m., MT and North Dakota following. Colorado State will finish the week with a game against Canisius College at 10 a.m., MT on Sunday.

LAST TIME OUT
Colorado State continued action last week at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, posting a 0-4 record.

CSU dropped games against then-No. 12 Tennessee, Ole Miss, California Baptist and Utah.

SEASON OPENING RECORDS
Colorado State began the season at the Texas Classic last weekend, winning its opener to Texas State. Head Coach Jen Fisher is now 5-5 in season openers and the Rams are 7-13 in openers since 2003.

After the first two weeks, four players are carrying an on-base streak, led by Danielle Serna with six games. Ashley Ruiz follows with a two-game streak and Peyton Allen and Neeley Peterson both reached base during the last game.

CAREER OPENER
Senior Jessica Jarecki started her final season with a solid performance from the circle. The senior got the nod against Maryland and delivered a career game, throwing 10 strikeouts on her way to her first win of the season.

OPPONENT SCOUT
Lancers: California Baptist holds a 4-5 mark after playing in Mexico with Colorado State. The two teams played each other with CBU earning a 4-3 victory. California Baptist earned its other win against Old Miss. The Lancers two losses were to then-No. 6 Texas and then-No.12 Tennessee.

Mustangs: Cal Poly will bring a 5-4 record into the weekend. The Mustangs were at the Fresno State Kickoff Classic last week posting a 3-2 record. CP split games against Saint Mary's and loss to Fordham and California, while also dropping a game to host Fresno State.

Bulldogs: Yale will begin its season this weekend. The Bulldogs finished last season with a 16-27 record.

Fighting Hawks: North Dakota will bring a 3-6 record into this weekend after dropping four games last weekend at the Louisiana Classic. UND suffered two losses to Samford, then-No. 13 Louisiana and then-No. 7 LSU.

Griffins: Canisius College carries a 3-4 record into the week after starting the year at the Gardner-Webb Tournament. The Griffs are in the middle of a three-game series at San Jose State - they will finish the series on Thursday.

ROOKIE OUTING
True freshman Danielle Serna made her collegiate debut in the 2020 season opener. The pitcher, who is from Austin, got the nod and threw a complete-game shutout against Texas A&M -Corpus Christi at the Texas Classic. Serna also appeared in two other games that weekend, earning her second win against Wichita State to finish the week.
