Rams Face Tough Competition at The Garman

JUDI GARMAN CLASSIC
Colorado State will continue non-conference action this week at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif., hosted by Cal State Fullerton. The Rams will play five games across three days at the Anderson Family Field, including a pair of games against Top-25 opponents.

The Rams will begin the tournament on Friday with games against Grand Canyon at 3:30 p.m., MT and Illinois at 6 p.m., MT. CSU will continue action on Saturday facing a pair of Top-25 teams with No. 4 LSU at 11 a.m., MT and No. 13 following Colorado State will finish the week with a game against LMU at 4 p.m., MT on Sunday.

Colorado State continued action last week at the Silicon Valley Classic, posting a 4-1 record.

CSU dropped its lone contest against Cal Poly in a walk-off loss. The Rams picked up wins against California Baptist, Yale, North Dakota and Canisius College.

SEASON OPENING RECORDS
Colorado State began the season at the Texas Classic, winning its opener to Texas A&M - Corpus Christi. Head Coach Jen Fisher is now 5-5 in season openers and the Rams are 7-13 in openers since 2003.

After the first three weeks, two players are carrying a five-game on-base streak. Jordan Acosta and Haley Donaldson both reached base in each game at the Silicon Valley Classic.

CAREER OPENER
Senior Jessica Jarecki started her final season with a solid performance from the circle. The senior got the nod against Maryland and delivered a career game, throwing 10 strikeouts on her way to her first win of the season.

OPPONENT SCOUT
Lopers: Grand Canyon will bring a 3-12 mark after hosting a GCU Purple Classic. The Lopers picked up a win against Drake, but suffered a trio of losses for the weekend. GCU's other two wins come from New Mexico in the season-opening weekend and at the Getterman Classic against Western Illinois.

Fighting Illini: Illinois carried a 7-5 record into the Garman. The Illini started the week early, suffering two losses on Thursday against Cal Poly and BYU. Illinois began the year strong, knocking off then-No. 21 Ole Miss and then-No. 23 Auburn. The Fighting Illini split games last week at the Baylor Invitational after going 1-3Â at the B1G/ACC Challenge with two losses to Notre Dame and to NC State.

Tigers: LSU had a 13-1 record going to the Garman, but started the week early suffering a loss to LMU in the opener. The Tigers responded with a 1-0 victory to No. 25 Texas Tech. The Tigers carried a seven-game winning streak into the week with it's lone loss to then-No. 13 Lafayette.

Wolverines: Michigan brings a 10-3 mark into the weekend, suffering its three losses last weekend at the Gamecock Invitational. The Wolverines dropped games to Iowa Sate, then-No. 22 South Carolina and Liberty. Michigan had nine-game winning streak to open the season snapped.

Lions: Loyola Marymount brought an 8-7 record into the weekend. LMU started the week on Thursday with a win against GCU. The Lions hosted their own tournament last week picking up three wins and dropping one contest.

ROOKIE OUTING
True freshman Danielle Serna made her collegiate debut in the 2020 season opener. The pitcher, who is from Austin, got the nod and threw a complete-game shutout against Texas A&M -Corpus Christi at the Texas Classic. Serna also appeared in two other games that weekend, earning her second win against Wichita State to finish the week.
