Rams Ready to Resume Season on the Road

Trip cut to one match at GCU
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Realizing before the season the best plans may come undone, no one has gotten discouraged after nearly a month-long break from the courts due to health and safety precautions.
Â
It's just making the Colorado State women's tennis team that much more eager to get back into competition with a road match at Grand Canyon on Tuesday. The trip was originally scheduled to begin Monday with a neutral-court match with New Mexico State at the GCU facilities, but the spring storm predicted for this weekend altered travel plans.
Â
Head coach Jarod Camerota was hopeful another match could be added on Wednesday, but for now, he's just grateful to see another team on the other side of the net before his Rams head into Mountain West play March 27-28 in San Jose, Calif.
Â
"We're just looking to get out there and get ready to compete. It was about a year ago (March 12, 2020) when it all ended; the Mountain West canceled the rest of the season," Camerota said. "We're excited to get out and play, and I think everybody is back and healthy. I think the team is doing alright considering it all. Everybody is just rolling with the punches and understands we get to compete when we get to compete, and when we do, it will be great."
Â
Colorado State is 1-2 on the season heading to Phoenix, Ariz., to take on a 1-7 Antelopes team; the one common opponent both share is a loss to Drake.
Â
The Rams look to get All-Mountain West performer Priscilla Palermo back in the lineup, as she was set to rejoin the team coming off of injury a month ago. Her addition will alter the doubles lineup for the team, and the break has allowed them to settle in with new combination possibilities.
Â
"We've definitely been experimenting with doubles team, and seeing about making some changes so that we can have our best chance to get the doubles point," Camerota said. "We've been working on things, and we'll see how that goes. We expect to get out there to compete in singles, too. It may be a slow start since we haven't played in a while, but were going to compete, nonetheless."
Â
With the pause eliminating a pair of home matches, the Rams will find themselves in a run of eight consecutive matches away from Fort Collins. Tracy Guo and Alyssa Grijalva have had the most success thus far, both with 2-1 marks at singles playing in the Nos. 3 and 4 spots, respectively.
