Albert C. Yates Student Leadership Award Added to Murphy-Pauletto’s Accomplishments
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – In what does not seem like a surprise, because of her relentless work and reach, senior Ally Murphy-Pauletto received well-earned recognition by being honored with Colorado State University's Albert C. Yates Student-Leadership Award for 2021, announced Monday.
Â
The Albert C. Yates Student Leadership Award is awarded annually to a student who demonstrates strong involvement, leadership, and a commitment to upholding CSU's values, traditions, and spirit. CSU hosts an annual award ceremony called "Celebrate! CSU Awards" every year which recognizes individuals across campus who go above and beyond to make CSU a special institution. Due to the ongoing pandemic, there will not be an in-person ceremony but all award recipients can be found on CSU's Source.
Â
"AP has proven to be so much more than an athlete," head coach Bill Hempen said. "We want and hope our student-athletes engage in more than just our immediate teams through immersing themselves into the fabric of our university. Ally has always been a seeker of knowledge and the next adventure. She is living proof that there are no limits to the impact you can have in your community and life. A Forever Ram that has impacted so many. I'm very proud of her and am excited for her next steps."
Â
The forward from Boulder, Colo., filled her senior year off the field with roles as Vice President for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and being a Presidential Ambassador for President Joyce McConnell's office. The three-time Mountain West Scholar Athlete and Academic All-MW recipient is set to graduate in May with a degree in International Studies & Ecosystem Science and Sustainability with a double minor in Spanish & International Development.
Â
This marks the second year in a row that the Albert C. Yates Student-Leadership Award – an award open to all students – has gone to a student-athlete. In 2020, Barry Wesley from the football team received the honor. Dr. Yates served Colorado State University from 1990-2003 as our 12th President, and is remembered for re-emphasizing the University's land-grant status in his efforts to make CSU a nationally recognized institution. He was also instrumental in elevating our athletics program, and led the way in the formation of the Mountain West Conference.Â
Â
Nomination from Marie Tyrell, Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Support Services.
Ally has committed herself to creating positive change in her world at CSU and the global world at large. Through her studies in International Development and Ecosystem Science & Sustainability, she has prepared herself well for graduate study and is more than ready to contribute to a professional team of organizers and policy influencers.
Â
Ally has paved the way for student-athletes on our campus. She represents quite a few firsts for student-athletes. She was the first student-athlete who performed an internship with the Office of General Counsel through the Student-Athlete Summer Career Experience. This year, she became the first student-athlete accepted to the competitive Presidential Ambassadors program, where she represents President Joyce McConnell in various spaces with donors and alumni. Beyond these firsts, Ally has also consistently shown up in leadership roles for both our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as well as our Rambition program, for female student-athletes. She has served on the leadership teams for both these programs since her sophomore year at CSU.
