Colorado State tied the game in the seventh before suffering a walk-off in the eighth.
BOISE, Idaho – Colorado State was down to its final out and Ashley Michelena knocked a single up the middle to tie the game 3-3 in the top of the seventh, but Colorado State fell in the bottom of the eighth as Boise State hit a lead-off homer. The Rams recorded seven hits in the loss, including a pair of hits in the second and seventh frames – each scoring runs.
Â
Colorado State scored the first run of the game in the second inning after Ashley York knocked an infield single. CSU held that lead until the fourth inning when Boise State hit a solo home run to tie the game 1-1. The Broncos took the lead in sixth after a pair of singles and a wild pitch helped score two runs.
Â
The Rams started their comeback in the top of the seventh as they put a pair of runners on via a single by Maya Matsubara and Ashley York drawing a walk. Jordan Acosta moved both into scoring position on a sac bunt before Ashley Michelena hit a two-out single up the middle to score both runners and tie the game 3-3. Boise State looked to end it in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out blooper to left, but a diving Tara Shadowen and a game-saving catch to force extra frames.
Â
Boise State brought in a new pitcher to start the eighth and put the Rams down in order. The Broncos pushed that momentum into their offense and earned the walk-off victory with a leadoff homer.
Â
The two teams were scheduled to play a second game of the doubleheader and were in the bottom of the second before being halted due to weather. Colorado State is leading in the second game 1-0 after Maya Matsubara hit an RBI ground out in the first.
Â
Colorado State will continue action on Sunday, resuming the halted game two at 10 a.m., followed by the series finale.
