Team drops series of tight singles matches
LAS VEGAS – The matches were tight, but in the end Saturday, the wins were hard to come by for Colorado State's women's tennis team during Saturday's rounds of the ITA Mountain Regional in Las Vegas.
Â
Junior Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya reached the semifinals in Flight 2 singles, dropping a 6-2, 7-6 decision to Hsuan Huang of New Mexico. The consolation rounds for the main draw of singles play went much the same for the Rams. Zara Lennon dropped a 6-4, 6-1 match to Utah's Marcela Lopez, while Tina Li of BYU beat CSU freshman Luana Avelar in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 10-6.
Â
"Our matches were very close and it's hard to lose those ones, but we fought, and it was great tennis," CSU coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "We learned that we are very competitive in this region and it's encouraging for us to continue to get better to finish our fall strong, and we're definitely excited for the spring season as well."

Colorado State is done in the tournament, with it's next action coming Nov. 4-6 at the Colorado Cup hosted by Denver.
