CSU Unable To Find Late Magic In 63-58 Loss To San Diego State in Air Force Reserve Mountain West Semifinals

The Rams cut it to a two-point margin in the final minute but could not get all the way back for the victory
LAS VEGAS, Nev.  – No. 2 seed Colorado State could not find an effective solution for No. 3 seed San Diego State's relentless defense and fell in the Air Force Reserve Mountain West Championship semifinals, 63-58, Friday night. With the loss, CSU dropped to 25-5 overall while the Aztecs improved to 23-7 and advanced to Saturday's championship game.

The early part of the game was a one of runs, as both teams put together runs of at least eight points, with the last a San Diego State 8-0 surge that put the Aztecs up 15-14. San Diego State then took the lead for good on an Adam Seiko jumper. SDSU pushed it to as many as 10 in the opening period before leading 35-26 at the intermission.

 Colorado State hung around in the second half and cut it to two at 57-55 with 55.4 to play. SDSU got a bucket and a free throw to make it a five-point margin but junior guard Isaiah Stevens' 3 cut it to 60-58 with 16.4 to go. The Rams forced a pair of SDSU inbounds plays with deflections but couldn't get the steal needed for a final chance.

Colorado State finished the game at 47.8 percent (22-of-46) from the floor but just 28.6 percent (6-of-21) on threes. San Diego State was 45.8 percent (22-of-48) overall and 33.3 percent (6-of-18) beyond the arc. The Aztecs won the board battle, 32-24, and each team had 14 turnovers.

CSU was led by junior forward David Roddy with 22 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Stevens was the other Ram in double figures with 21 points. San Diego State was led by Trey Pulliam with 11 points as seven Aztecs tallied five or more in the contest.
