Bohlender Paces Rams at Fresno State

4/24/2022 2:58:00 PM | Softball

Freshman Brooke Bohlender finished perfect in the dish in game three against the Bulldogs.

FRESNO, Calif. – Colorado State outhit Fresno State, 11-10, but fell short in game three on Sunday, 6-3, stranding 11 runners on base. Freshman Brooke Bohlender led the Rams from the dish with a 4-for-4 performance, including a double and two RBI. CSU suffered a series sweep at Fresno State, dropping to 14-22 overall, 5-10 in the Mountain West and looking for its first league road win.

In addition to Bohlender's four hits, seven other Rams tallied a hit, including Peyton Allen who knocked a solo home run in the seventh – her eighth of the season – for the other RBI. Danielle Serna also added a double to the box score.

The Rams sent three pitchers to the circle in Sunday's loss. Sydney Hornbuckle started and threw 1 2/3 inning, allowing two unearned runs and three hits, while striking out two batters. Julia Cabral came in on relief and tossed three innings to be given the loss. She faced 16 batters and allowed four hits and two runs, while also striking out two batters. Jetta Nannen finished the game and allowed two runs and three hits.

Fresno State scored the first runs of the game in the second inning with two runs on two hits and a CSU error.

The Rams tied the game in the fourth inning after tallying three hits to score two runs. After putting runners in scoring position with two outs, Bohlender hit a two RBI double to right center to tie the game. CSU had runners on the corners and looking to take the lead but couldn't convert.

The Bulldogs retook the lead in the home-half of the frame after hitting a double with two outs to plate two runs.

Colorado State loaded the bases in the fifth with one out but stranded all three after back-to-back strike outs. Fresno State added to its lead in the sixth after a two-run homer extended it to 6-2.

In the final frame, the Rams had two outs before Allen hit her eighth home of the season. Back-to-back singles by Carolina Buffaloe and Bohlender brought the tying run to the plate, but fell short.
