Colorado State recorded 15 hits in the victory to force a rubber match on Sunday

LAS VEGAS – Colorado State's offense tallied 15 hits, which led to a 12-4 victory against UNLV in game two of the series on Saturday afternoon. The Rams recorded three runs in three different innings to secure the victory and force a rubber match for game three on Sunday afternoon.

Six different Rams recorded multiple hits in the win, led by Peyton Allen who hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning and scored three runs. Danielle Serna also tallied a pair of hits, while also drawing two walks. Sydney Hornbuckle earned the win after starting in the circle and tossing 5 2/3 inning before getting relieved. The sophomore allowed just two earned runs on four hits. Julia Cabral finished the game, facing the final six batters and allowing just one hit and striking out two.

Colorado State scored the first run of the game in the opening inning as Ashley York reached on a fielder's choice before moving around the bases to score on a RBI single by Danielle Serna. The Rams added to their lead in the second inning after Kaitlyn Cook hit her fifth homer of the season – a two run shot to extend the lead to 3-0.

Both teams went down in order in the third, but CSU used four hits in the fourth to extend their lead to 6-0. The Rams scored on a RBI single by Jalyn McGuffin, a wild pitch and RBI single by York.

UNLV got on the board in the bottom half of the fourth after two hits led to two runs and the score at 6-2.

CSU extended its lead again in the fifth after Peyton Allen hit her ninth homer of the season – a three-run shot to left – to give the Rams a 9-2 advantage.

The Rebels got a couple runs back in the sixth after a two-run homer put the score at 9-4.

Colorado State added a few insurance runs in the top of seventh after two hits led to three runs. A hit by pitch from Carolina Buffaloe and a walk by Maya Matsubara helped the Rams extend the lead to 12-4.

UNLV put two runners on in the seventh, but back-to-back strikeout by Cabral closed the book to force a rubber match in game three.
