Team closes three-game road swing to open season
FORT COLLINS, Colo.- Colorado State hits the road for one match this week before returning for their home opener the first Sunday of September.
Â
After splitting the first two games of the season on the road, the Rams (1-1) head to Vermillion, S.D., to take on the Coyotes (0-2) for the second time in program history.
Â
Thursday's match is the final of three road matches to start the season for the Rams with the home opener scheduled for Sunday, September 4th.
"It's been a good test for our team with these three road games," said head coach Keeley Hagen. "With another tough opponent at South Dakota coming up, I am looking forward to seeing this team continue to grow and develop."
Â
Colorado State and South Dakota battled to a scoreless draw in the 2021 home opener. The Rams will look to get the offense rolling on Thursday, the same offense that generated two goals in their season-opening win against Utah Tech that included a strike from Liv Layton and a game-winning goal from sophomore midfielder Ali Yoshida in the final minutes. Kenady Leighton and Izzy Wildermuth have also been credited with assists.
Â
The Rams have generated seven shots on goal, tied for fifth most in the Mountain West.
Â
In net, Emille Gavilet has started both matches, notching eight saves with a 2.00 GAA. She is one of six players on roster who have played all 180 minutes, the others being Leighton, Wildermuth, Kaitlyn Abrams, Taylor Bee and Sarah Hogenkamp.
Â
The Coyotes have struggled to find the back of the net so far in their two matchups scoring once in five shots on goal.
