Three singles players, a double team reach championship match

Colorado State's women's tennis team will have four spots playing in the finals on Sunday's final day of play at the Bedford Cup at the Air Force Academy. Three of the spots are singles matches along with one doubles team.

"We know this team is talented and works extremely hard, but it's always nice to see their results show early in a season," CSU coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "It's very encouraging for what's to come."

In singles, Radka Buzkova will play for the title in the Alpha bracket, as will Emily Dush in the Bravo draw and Luana Avelar in the Charlie bracket. At doubles, Ky Ecton and Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya reached the finals in Bravo doubles.

Buzkova and Dush both needed three sets, while Avelar won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 over Shauna Hefferman of Boise State. Buzkova topped Boise State's Pauline Ernstberger, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4; Dush took down Denver's Andrea Burguete Beltran 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. The Ecton/Zhadzinskaya tandem had a tight 8-6 victory over Courtney Swift and Kaleigh Yun-Thayer of Air Force.

"Our goal was to compete and get better each day, and that will be the same focus tomorrow in the finals."
The final day of action begins at 9 a.m.
