Another strong day in net for Colorado State netminders
Albuquerque, N.M. – Colorado State (4-3-3) completed its two match Mountain West road trip without a loss. They finished Sunday's match with the Lobos of New Mexico with a 1-1 draw.Â
ÂThe Rams and Lobos battled in the first 45 minutes putting up a total of 15 shots. Despite the constant threats both goaltenders stayed steady and managed a shutout. Maddie Ogden got the start for the Rams for the third straight match and stopped all four shots that made it through the Colorado State defense.
ÂBoth offenses stayed active following the break, each putting up more shots than they did in the first frame. Three of the Rams' eight, second half shots came in the opening minutes as senior Liv Layton fired two shots in 39 seconds. Early in the 54th minute Senior Kaitlyn Abrams recorded her second goal of the season. Layton was credited with the assist notching her ninth point of the season.Â
ÂThe Lobos were quick to respond with a long shot that got past Emilie Gavillet who came in to relieve Ogden for the second half. The action did not slow as the final minutes ticked away, the score, however, remained the same through the final whistle. Â
ÂThe tie extends the Rams' unbeaten streak to three matches and secures them another point in the Mountain West standings. Colorado State is one of four teams that finished week one of conference play without a loss. Only one team finished with two wins (Utah State).Â
ÂThe Rams return to Fort Collins on Thursday for their conference home opener against Boise State at 3 p.m.Â
