Outside hitter brings in first weekly award of the season for the Rams

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – After leading the Colorado State volleyball team to a 2-0 start in Mountain West play, junior outside hitter Kennedy Stanford was recognized as the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week for her performance in week five of the season.

The Rams opened conference play against Wyoming and UNLV last week, winning both matches to move to 9-4 on the season and 2-0 in the Mountain West. Stanford was a huge part of the 3-1 victory over the Cowgirls as well as the 3-0 sweep over the Rebels, earning her Colorado State's first weekly award of the season.

Against the Cowgirls, Stanford led the team with 14 kills while adding four service aces, which was a new career high. Playing as a six-rotation player in both games, she also added 10 digs from the backrow, good for her third double-double of the year.

Putting up a similar game against UNLV, Stanford's presence switched from the service line to at the net in her blocking ability. She finished with four total blocks over the Rebels, including two block solos. In a quick sweep of the Rebels, she also contributed 10 kills.

Overall, Stanford leads the Rams in kills this season with 146 while sitting second in digs with 92, only behind Rams' libero Kate Yoshimoto. She also leads the team with eight block solos on the season.

This is Stanford's second Mountain West weekly award win, winning it after week five last season as well.
