Team will face DU and MSU Denver
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – This marks the first weekend of dual play, and the Rams are ready.
Â
Colorado State women's tennis will kickstart its season opener with two non-conference matches in Denver. On Saturday, the Rams will begin the spring season with a match against the Denver Pioneers at 1:30 p.m. and then they will face the MSU Denver Roadrunners at 5 p.m. at the Denver Tennis Park.
Â
"I'm looking forward to showcasing some of the hard work the girls have been putting in over the last six months," head coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "We have a lot of new girls this year and I'm really excited to see them compete. For some of them, it will be their first college dual as a team, so I know they're eager to get a taste of what this team is capable of and kick off the spring season."
Â
Coming out of the fall season, Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya and Sarah Weekley had 11 singles victories. Radka Buzkova had nine and Luana Avelar had seven. For doubles play, Ky Ecton had eight victories and Zhadzinskaya and Weekley both had seven in total. The most successful doubles pairings from the fall were comprised of Ecton and Weekley as well as Emily Dush and Sarka Richterova, each pair with four victories overall.
Â
"We have prepared well over the break and are in the best position we could be to get started," Tran said. "It's a long season, so it's important to focus on improving each match and making small adjustments throughout the season to take us where we want to be."
Â
This Saturday will be the beginning of 22 matches the Rams will play this spring, with the first 12 being non-conference. The Rams are coming off their most successful dual season in history, posting a 15-8 mark a season ago.
Â
CSU will play its first home match of the season on Feb. 5 when they host San Francisco at 1 p.m.
