What You Need to Know
- Redshirt junior Malaya Jones was awarded Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week. Jones totaled 25 kills over the weekend, hitting at a .321 efficiency and averaged 3.57 kills per set.
- The Rams and Cowgirls will meet this week for the first Border War of the season. The game will be featured on the Mountain West Network and Mountain West app serving as the Tuesday Night Block Party featured game.
- This upcoming week will be the Rams' first split week. The team will be on the road in Laramie Tuesday night and back at Moby Arena Saturday afternoon for face San Jose State.
Scouting the Cowgirls and Spartans
- Wyoming is coming off an 11-0 start to the season, the best start Wyoming's program has ever seen. Since starting conference play, the Cowgirls have not scored a win in the Mountain West. The Cowgirls will be entering Moby Arena on a four-game losing streak as the second best blocking team in the conference.
- Cowgirl outside hitter Rylee Schulz sits seventh in the Mountain West in kills with 57 this conference season. Middle blockers, Tierney Barlow and Sarah Holcombe are tied for fourth in the conference for total blocks each boasting 22.
- The Spartans are on a two-game win streak after defeating Nevada and Fresno State in four sets each and losing to both UNLV and San Diego State during opening weekend of conference play.
- San Jose State is ranked fourth in team blocks so far in Mountain West play, just behind Wyoming with 39 total team blocks. The Rams will see strong net defense in both competitions this week.
- Outside hitter Letizia Cammillucci ranks as San Jose State's best attacker as she is ranked fifth in the conference with 52 total kills. Ti'a Nayeli also had 14 kills of her own in the Spartan's last outing Saturday afternoon against Fresno State.
- San Jose State Libero Alessia Buffagni was named this week's Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week. She currently averages 4.25 digs per set. Teammate Nayeli Ti'a was also awarded freshman of the week. Ti'a averages 2.88 kills per set and currently had 23 across two matches last week for the Spartans.
Match Notes
- The Rams were 2-0 at home last week, defeating San Diego State in four and sweeping UNLV, who remains number two in the Mountain West.
- Saturday afternoon was a quick match for the Rams; the team defeated the Rebels 25-21 in all three sets. It was the Rams' first sweep of the season. Collectively, the Rams hit a season-high hitting percentage of .473 against the Rebels.
- Redshirt junior Malaya Jones totaled 16 kills followed by Annie Sullivan with 13 and Kennedy Stanford with 12. The three accounted for 41 of the team's 54 kills against San Diego State.
- Jones continues to thrive on offense as she currently ranks third in kills in the Mountain West, with 56 total kills over the two weekends of conference play so far.
- Naeemah Weathers reached a hitting percentage of .889 against UNLV, sending her into the first place ranking in the conference with a Mountain West hitting percentage of .426.
- The Rams totaled 22 team blocks Thursday against San Diego State with middle blockers Karina Leber and Naeemah Weathers recording seven and four blocks respectively.
