Colorado State set to play Broncos in second weekend of conference play

FORT COLLINS, Colo. –  The Colorado State softball team will compete in its second conference weekend of the season as they travel to Boise State March 24-26 to play a three-game series against the Broncos.
 
What You Need to Know:
  • While the conference season is still new, playing on the road is not foreign to the Rams as 21 out of 24 of Colorado State's games so far this season have happened away from Fort Collins.
  • The Rams ended their first weekend of conference play 2-1 as they took the series win over San Diego State in their home opening weekend.
  • This weekend's games against the Broncos are set for 4 p.m. both Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday.
 
Scouting the Broncos:
  • Being voted the pre-season No. 1 team in the Mountain West, the Broncos bring a 16-10 record into the second weekend of conference play.
  • Last weekend, Boise State swept UNLV to start 3-0 in the Mountain West.
  • The top athlete at the plate for the Broncos so far this season has been senior Autumn Bennet who is hitting .429 on the year. In the circle, Boise State is lead by junior pitcher Taylor Caudill who has a team best 3.07 ERA so far this season.
  • Colorado State is 13-18 overall against the Broncos and 9-15 when playing in Boise.
 
Game Notes:
  • Coming off of the 2-1 series win over San Diego State, senior pitcher and first baseman Danielle Serna was a top performer and senior leader for the Rams. Serna finished the weekend hitting .429 from the plate including a double and a triple, and picking up two wins in the circle with a 1.17 ERA through six innings.
  • Pitcher Sydney Hornbuckle got the start in games one and three against the Aztecs, totaling eight innings on the weekend only allowing five hits with three strikeouts.
  • From the plate, sophomore Brooke Bohlender went 3-7 (.427) on the weekend, also reaching on a walk as the catcher continues to find herself in the lineup more consistently this season.
  • Hailey Smith was the big slugger for CSU last weekend as the junior had three hits, two of them being home runs, totaling five RBI on the weekend.
