Colorado State unable to keep up with high powered Boise State offense
BOISE, ID. – The Colorado State softball team suffered a 13-2 loss to the Boise State Broncos Saturday afternoon as the series moves to 1-1 on the weekend and the Rams are set to play in the rubber match tomorrow at 11 a.m.
Â
Things started out well for Colorado State as the Rams posted two runs in the first inning of the game thanks to a two-run home run from senior Peyton Allen. This would be Allen's eighth on the year, moving her into first place in the Mountain West, tied with her teammate Hailey Smith.
Â
From there, the Rams celebrated the return of senior pitcher Julia Cabral who made her first start and appearance this season in the circle for Colorado State. Unfortunately for the Rams, the high powered offense of the Broncos went on to score 13 unanswered runs to defeat Colorado State in run rule fashion.
Â
Three of the Broncos runs would be scored via the walk with nine RBI coming courtesy of the Boise State home run including a grand slam from Serena Hutchinson in the third inning.
Â
Sharing time in the circle for the Rams was Cabral as well as freshmen Giselle Bentley and Delaney Saugstad. Combined, Colorado State only gave up six hits through four innings but allowing nine walks in 29 batters faced was the kryptonite for the Rams Saturday afternoon.
Â
Colorado State will look to bounce back and take the series win in the rubber match Sunday morning at 11 a.m.
