Win is first on the road for the team, breaking a three-match slide
BOISE, IDAHO – Colorado State snapped a pair of streaks in one clean victory on Sunday afternoon.
Â
The No. 63 team in the country had dropped three consecutive Mountain West matches entering the draw against Boise State, and the team had not won on the road in conference play. A 4-2 victory put an end to both.
Â
The first step toward moving to 14-7 on the year, 3-5 in the MW, was securing the doubles point, which the Rams did with victories from Ky Ecton and Zara Lennon at No. 2 and Sarka Richterova and Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya at No. 3 with matching 6-3 results.
Â
The Rams pushed the advantage to 3-0 when Emily Dush and Zhadzinskaya posted straight-sets victories. Dush toppled Shauna Heffernan 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4, with Zhadzinskaya notching a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 over Bhakti Shah.
Â
The Broncos picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 6 to tighten the score, but Lennon brought an end to the dual with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory at No. 2 against Lorelyz Maruffo.
Â
Colorado State concludes the regular season hosting a pair of conference matches at the CSU Tennis Complex on Friday (vs. New Mexico, Senior Day) and Saturday (vs. Air Force, International Students Day). Both matches are set for 2 p.m. That will lead the team into the Mountain West Championships, beginning April 26 in Las Vegas.
