Team to celebrate seniors and international students at matches

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Rams are ending conference play at home with two celebratory matches. The No. 66 Colorado State women's tennis will be honoring the team's seniors Ky Ecton and Emily Dush on Friday before playing New Mexico at 2 p.m. Saturday's match is against Air Force and will start at 2 p.m., dedicated to international students, of which the team has six. Both matches will be held at the CSU Tennis Complex; there will be live stats and live coverage available for these events.

"It has been an incredible ride and journey for our seniors, and Friday is a great day for us to honor their achievements and triumphs throughout their collegiate careers and thank them for everything they did for CSU," head coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "On Saturday, we will celebrate international students day to acknowledge the diverse origins of our student-athletes, highlighting the unique cultural perspectives and experiences they bring to our team."

The Lobos are 10-7 overall and 3-4 in conference play. The Rams faced the Lobos twice last season and came out victorious both times with scores of 6-1 and 4-0. Head-to-head historically, New Mexico leads the series 32-6.

The Falcons are 6-2 in conference, currently in a three-way tie for second in the stands, with an overall record is 10-9. Last season, the Rams beat Air Force 4-2, but the Falcons lead the series 34-21.

"This weekend's matches will be a good test, providing great preparation for us leading into the conference tournament," Tran said. "We have learned so much throughout this season and have found ways to win close matches."

Entering the weekend, Radka Buzkova ranks fifth all-time in a single season with 23 singles wins, with Zara Lennon not far behind with 19. Last year, Buzkova won 25 singles matches, putting her in a tie for third at CSU. Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya, with 19 doubles wins on the year while paired with four different partners, needs to more to crack the top 10 for a single campaign.

The matches close out the regular season for the Rams, who will have a quick turnaround to the Mountain West Championships, beginning April 26 in Las Vegas. The team is 14-7 on the year, 3-5 in conference play having won both prior matches at home.

"We are happy to close out our regular season on our home courts. We love playing in front of our friends, family, and supporters," Tran said. "We look forward to using this momentum to finish our season strong."
