Four Rams Earn All-Conference Honors

York and Smith named to first team All-Mountain West, Gates and Serna names to second team

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Four Rams a part of the Colorado State softball team were named to the Mountain West All-Conference teams, the conference announce Wednesday morning. Juniors Ashley York and Hailey Smith were both named first team All-Mountain West while Molly Gates and Danielle Serna were both named second team All-Mountain West.
 
York, who finished the regular season with the third best batting average in the conference at .405 and second best number of total hits at 64, earned the first All-Conference award of her career as the junior has played in and started 44 games in center field this season.
 
Smith, one of the top sluggers in the conference, finished the regular season tied for first place in the conference with 12 home runs on the season as well as eight doubles and three triples for a regular season slugging percentage of .651. This is the right fielder's second All-Conference honor as she was named to the second team after her sophomore campaign last season.
 
Gates, the latest addition to the Rams after transferring in from North Dakota State this year, earns her first Mountain West All-Conference honors after finishing the year playing in and starting 45 games this season in left field. Gates finished the regular season with a .366 batting average and a third best total of 60 hits on the season.
 
Serna, the utility pitcher-first base combo, earns her first All-Conference honor after hitting a .323 on the season with 10 doubles a triple and two home runs as well as recording 192 putouts and 23 assists with only one error in the field. From the circle, she has pitched a 4.30 ERA on the season in 81.1 innings pitched with a fourth best opponent batting average in the conference of only .220.
 
All four Rams as well as the remainder of the Colorado State softball team will compete in the Mountain West Tournament this weekend from May 11-13 as the Rams enter as the No. 3 seed and will face off against No. 6 Nevada in the opening round of the tournament, Thursday at 11:30 a.m. from San Diego.
