Utah State’s late goal hands Colorado State its first conference loss of season
Colorado State (6-3-2) ended Thursday night in the loss column for the first time during conference play. The Rams fell to 1-1-1 in conference play following the goal in the 90th minute.Â
ÂIt was a defensive heavy matchup for both teams who struggled to test the keepers. Utah State managed 15 shots with 10 of them being on target. Rams goalkeeper, Shayna Ross, stopped all but the last one. In the final minute, the Aggies found late-game heroics when Kylie Olsen netted her first career goal from outside the box. Olsen took a feed from Kaitlyn Richins on a give-and-go and fired in the lone goal of the match.Â
ÂOffensively the Rams only mustered two shots on goal in five total shots, their lowest output of the season. The Rams best chance came about halfway through the first half when the ball was fired toward the net and collided with Hale Otto. It was the Rams lone high-risk chance of the evening.
ÂColorado State played the majority of the match down a player, when junior Liv Stutzman was given her second yellow card of the match in the 44th minute. The Rams played the final 90 seconds of the first half and the entirety of the second half without one of their key defenders in the mix. The Aggies took advantage of the situation, tallying 10 of their 15 shots following the ejection.Â
ÂThursday's match was the just the second time this season the Rams were kept off the scoreboard.Â
ÂThe Rams will turn their attention to Boise State who finished their matchup with Wyoming on Thursday with a 3-1 win at home. They will put their unbeaten conference record on the line when they take on the Rams on Sunday at noon.
