Rams Set to Travel to San Diego for Torero Classic

Colorado State will face Southern Utah, Eastern Illinois, Long Island and San Diego during week two action
FORT COLLINS – The Colorado State softball team will travel to the Torero Classic hosted by San Diego for the second weekend of regular season action after the Rams went 3-2 at the Easton Classic during opening weekend. This weekend's tournament is the second of five non-conference tournaments for the Rams ahead of Mountain West play.

- During the second weekend of non-conference play, the Rams are scheduled to compete in five games at the Torero Classic. Four neutral site games and one against host team San Diego.

Scouting the Torero Classic
- Colorado State gave Southern Utah its only loss during opening weekend at the Easton Classic with an 8-1 victory. The Rams will face the Thunderbirds again in their first matchup of the weekend.
- San Diego will host the Torero Classic with a record of 0-5, having lost to Idaho State, Maryland, No. 3 Texas twice and No. 20 UCLA.
- Coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance last season, Eastern Illinois arrives at the Torero Classic with a perfect 5-0 record having secured victories over UT Arlington, Green Bay, North Dakota, Montana and Providence College during opening weekend.
- As the reigning Northeast Conference Champions, Long Island sits 2-3 on the season with wins over Boston College and Florida Gulf Coast so far this year.
Game Notes
- Senior Maya Matsubara had a successful first weekend at the plate, hitting with a .500 batting average, securing seven hits, and earning five RBI. She currently shares the team's highest batting average with junior Morgan Crosby who went 3-6 last weekend.
- Currently, five Rams maintain a batting average over .300, including freshman Jailey Wilson who holds an impressive .375 average after her first weekend with the Rams.
- Danielle Serna leads the Rams pitching staff in her fifth year with a record of 2-1 and an ERA of 0.54.
- The Colorado State offense scored a total of 27 runs over five games last weekend, with only two of those runs coming from the home run ball. The Rams ability to string hits together as a team led them to two run-rule wins at the Easton Classic.
- Defensively, the Rams left opening weekend with a team fielding percentage of .991 which leads the conference after week one.
