Rams Drop Games to Louisiana and No. 2 Texas

Colorado State looks ahead to final game of Lone Star State Invitational
AUSTIN, Tex. – The Colorado State softball team fell to No. 2 Texas and receiving votes team Louisiana in Saturday's action at the Lone Star State Invitational.

In game one versus Louisiana, the Ragin' Cajun got out to an early 2-0 lead, but both offenses were left quiet in the middle part of the game.

Relief pitcher for Colorado State Reagan Wick entered the game in the third inning and limited Louisiana to four hits in four innings of work in the circle.

Meanwhile, Danielle Serna, Peyton Allen, Brooke Bohlender and Ashely York all reached base through the first six innings for the Rams but were unable to string hits together to produce a run, including leaving bases loaded in the sixth.

Louisiana took its 2-0 lead into the seventh inning where the Ragin' Cajuns added two more runs via a sacrifice bunt and a throwing error from the Rams. It was two runs that Louisiana would eventually need before the Rams took their final at-bats in the bottom of the seventh.

In the bottom half of the seventh, Hailey Smith launched a towering home run with two outs to score both herself and Maya Matsubara who reached via a walk. The Rams had pulled within two, but with two outs, were unable to capitalize on the late-game momentum, falling 4-2.

Game two was a forgetful game for the Rams as the No. 2 team in the nation, Texas Longhorns scored six runs in the fourth inning to run-rule the Rams in five innings, 9-0.

Ashley York totaled the only hit in the fourth game of the Lone Star State Invitational.

Colorado State will face No. 12 Stanford Sunday at 9:00 a.m. mountain time to close out its time in Austin. The Rams will then return home to host the Colorado Classic March 1-3 next weekend.
