Rams will take on Maine, Drake and Idaho State in final non-conference tournament of the season

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Fresh off an undefeated weekend at the Colorado Classic, the Colorado State softball team is back on its home turf, gearing up to host Maine (1-10), Drake (8-7), and Idaho State (12-9) at the Colorado State Rams Invitational this Friday through Sunday.

What You Need to Know
  • The Rams are set to participate in five games at the Rams Invitational, starting the weekend with a doubleheader on Friday against Maine and Drake at 2 and 4:30 PM.
  • This weekend marks the conclusion of the Rams' non-conference games for the 2024 season. Mountain West conference play will kick off with an away game March 16, featuring a two-game series at UNLV.
  • Non-ideal weather conditions are expected for Thursday and Friday in Fort Collins and if schedule changes arise, the Rams will ensure their online schedule and social media platforms are promptly updated with any schedule adjustments.   • All five matchups will be streamed via the Mountain West Network.
  • Two neutral site games containing the three visiting teams of the Rams Invitational will take place Friday at Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. while Ram Field will play host to one neutral site game Sunday morning at 10 a.m. before the Rams face Drake at 12:30 p.m.
 
Scouting the Colorado Classic
  • In the Rams Invitational, both Idaho State and Colorado State are currently tied for the highest number of wins. However, Idaho State experienced a challenging last weekend, finishing with a 1-3 record scoring only three runs in its final three games of the weekend with loses against Cal Baptist, St. John's and Cal Poly. Conversely, the Rams concluded their last weekend at the Colorado Classic scoring an impressive total of 31 runs in their last three games.
  • Idaho State currently holds the top team ERA in the Big Sky conference at 2.40.
  • Maine is heading into the weekend with a 1-10 record. Last weekend, its participated in the Blue Hen Invitational, securing one win and suffering one loss against Delaware. Additionally, they dropped a game versus Bucknell.
  • Drake is entering the weekend with a record of 8-7, leading its conference in batting average with a team clip of .289.
 
Game Notes
  • Sophomore Giselle Bentley had a stellar weekend on the mound, earning her first Mountain West Pitcher of the Week Award. She played a pivotal role in the Rams' undefeated 5-0 weekend, leading the team with 9.1 innings pitched. Bentley showcased an impressive weekend ERA of 1.50.
  • Fifth year Peyton Allen had an outstanding performance at the plate over the weekend, spearheading the Rams with an impressive slash line of .462/.562/.923. She also achieved a significant milestone by hitting her first career collegiate grand slam, propelling the Rams to victory in their final game against Iowa State.
  • Senior Maya Matsubara maintains her lead at the plate for the Rams with batting average of .351. Over the weekend, she secured six RBI and hit her first home run of the season.
  • During the Colorado Classic, the Colorado State offense tallied a total of 42 runs across five games. Noteworthy highlights included grand slams from Peyton Allen and Hailey Smith, along with home runs from both Danielle Serna and Maya Matsubara.
  • Junior Brooke Bohlender also hit .500 on the weekend, going 8-16 and recording 11 putouts behind the plate for the Rams.
