Abby Edwards goes yard to win game three in Fort Collins

FORT COLLINS  – The Colorado State softball team won its first conference series of the season over the UNLV Rebels Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 win in game three thanks to an Abby Edwards walk off home run.

  • It was a home run in the seventh inning Saturday that left the Rams with a bitter taste in their mouth, but a walk-off home run in game three is what sealed the first series win for Colorado State. Abby Edwards, entered for two at-bats halfway through the contest was the hero Sunday afternoon with a blast to left field, scoring herself and Jordan West in the seventh.
  • A far less offensive game compared to Saturday's 20-19 loss, the Rams totaled seven hits, two from both West and Lauren Stucky.
  • Carolina Buffaloe also added the first RBI of the game for the Rams, scoring Kaylynn English in the first inning.
  • Dominating in the circle was Reagan Wick, making her third appearance this weekend for the Rams, pitching her second complete game of the series. The sophomore ace only allowed six UNLV hits and one earned run. UNLV's only run of the game came in a leadoff home run to start the game, but after that Wick was able to lock down the Rebels, including totaling six strikeouts.
  • Defensively, Brooke Bohlender totaled seven putouts behind the plate with West adding three assists at shortstop on another day defensively perfect for the Rams.

Up Next: Colorado State will continue its Mountain West season on the road next weekend with a series versus San Jose State March 21-23.
