FRESNO, Calif. – The first conference road match of the season came with a promising start, but Colorado State's women's tennis team fell to Fresno State 4-1 on Friday evening, the first of two Mountain West duals in California this weekend.
Â
The Rams stand at 3-11 overall, 1-2 in conference.
Â
The Rams opened the dual by winning the doubles point, with both teams claiming 6-4 victories. There was a change on the second line, with Logan Voeks joining Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya in the lineup.
Â
"I've been happy with how we're playing doubles," CSU coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "We've been aggressive and playing to win. Getting that doubles point gave us a boost in this match."
Â
It was at singles where the host Bulldogs, bolstered by the return of two-time Mountain West player of the year Yinglak Jittakoat, who had been absent from the lineup in singles for a month, made the surge.
Â
Jittakoat gave the hosts the lead with her straight-sets victory at the No. 2 spot, topping Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya 6-1, 6-2. With a forfeit at No. 6 in hand, Fresno State closed out the day with a straight-set victory at the No. 1 spot, then a three-set victory at No. 4. The two matches not to finish, Voeks was in a third set at No. 3 after winning the first set, and Diana Lizarazo trailed at No. 5.
Â
"We fought in every singles match," Tran said. "Fresno State played well when they needed to."
Â
The Rams will stay in California, facing San Jose State on Sunday at 12 p.m. (MT)
