Women’s tennis will celebrate seniors in final home dual
FORT COLLINS – Every journey comes to an end.Â
Â
Colorado State women's tennis team will host Air Force at 3:30 p.m., Friday for Senior Day at the CSU Tennis Complex before closing out the regular season on the road against rival Wyoming at 11 a.m., Sunday. Â
Â
With its recent win against Utah State, Colorado State is 2-6 against the Mountain West. The Falcons are 2-5 against the conference with their most successful player being Arianna Van Houweling, who has won four singles matches and three doubles with multiple partners.Â
Â
The Rams will be celebrating their seniors, Victoria Erechtchenko, Sarah Weekley and Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya. Erechtchenko and Weekley have been an outstanding doubles pair for the team this season with a 5-1 record. Â
Â
Erechtchenko, Weekley and Zhadzinskaya are in a four-way tie for most singles wins this season with two each. Â
Â
"Senior Day is always an emotional and special day. It's a celebration of the seniors who have poured so much into this team and university," CSU coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "I love taking the time to reflect on their journeys and the growth they've experienced during their time at CSU. It's moments like these that remind me of my "why" in coaching. Â I'm so grateful for everything they've done for this program, and I want to sincerely thank them for their dedication, commitment, and impact. Â It'll be a fun day."Â
Â
Going back on the road to finish off the season, the team will face the Cowgirls who are 3-5 against the conference. Doubles partners Violetta Borodina and Dilnaz Mashabayeva have a 6-3 record which leads the team. Â
Â
This weekend's duals will determine Colorado State's seeding for the Mountain West Tournament which will begin April 23.
Â
"Going into the final duals of the season, we're looking for the team to bring energy, focus, and a competitive mindset. We're up against two rivals, and we're excited for the battle—they're always memorable matches," Tran said. "This is a great opportunity for us to build on the momentum we've created over our last few matches and continue pushing forward together.
Â
"The team has really come together over the past few weeks. They've been putting in the work all season, and it's starting to show. I love how they've competed for one another every match -- they've stayed united and are truly playing for each other."
Â
There will be live streaming and live stats for the senior day match and Wyoming will have live streaming and stats as well.Â
