Chad Savage serves as Colorado State's wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator and joined the staff prior to the 2022 season as part of Jay Norvell's initial hiring wave.
Savage originally joined as the tight ends coach, and following staff departures to Hawaii, he became the wide receivers coach prior to the start of 2022 spring practices.
For his efforts as a part of signing the 2022, 2023, and 2024 signing classes, Savage has been the highest-ranked recruiter in the Mountain West by 247Sports for three consecutive seasons. Savage primarily recruits southern California and Arizona for the Green and Gold and was instrumental in signing six Rams in and around Los Angeles in the class of 2022. He was also named to 247Sports.com's "30 under 30" list for the 2022 season. In the 2023 class, the number of Rams from Savage's recruiting area jumped to 10. In the 2024 class, Savage's recruiting efforts led to the signing of wide receiver Jordan Ross, the highest-rated player to ever sign with the Rams.
On the field, in his first season leading the receivers, Savage mentored Tory Horton to a 1,000-yard season, the eighth-consecutive such season for a Rams pass catcher. Horton was named first team All-Mountain West after leading the league in yards (1,131) and yards per game (94.3) while notching five 100-yard games. He was named to the Biletnikoff Watch List on his way to tallying the eight-most receiving yards in a season in school history. Horton's 71 receptions ranked 10th in school history. True freshman Justus Ross-Simmons also became a starter and a dependable target with 26 receptions for 424 yards, averaging 16.3 yards per catch.
 Â
The Reno, Nev., native began his coaching career as an undergraduate assistant at San Diego from 2018-17, then became a graduate assistant at Nevada from 2018-19. He returned to USD for one season as the receivers coach before returning to Reno to become the tight ends coach in 2021.
Â
While coaching for the Wolfpack, Savage helped Cole Turner continue his All-Mountain West career as the second-team selection finished with 63 receptions for 677 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2021. Turner was a fifth round selection by the Washington Commanders in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Savage earned his undergraduate degree from the University of San Diego in Communications Studies in 2018.
