Rams Win Third In A Row, 30-20

Fort Collins, Colo. ? Colorado State University won its third football game in a row, defeating visiting Air Force, 30-20 before an overflow crowd and national television audience Thursday night at Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium.
The Rams generated 564 total yards ? 383 by quarterback Bradlee Van Pelt ? and the defense generated three turnovers.
?Defensively, we played well,? said Rams? coach Sonny Lubick. ?Our offense did a great job. Our offensive line was knocking people off the ball.?
Van Pelt, the team?s senior quarterback, rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 258 more yards and a touchdown to pace the offensive attack. His favorite passing target was wide receiver David Anderson, who had nine receptions for 199 yards ? both career bests ? and a touchdown. His 199 yards is the fourth most in a game in school history.
?David Anderson,? said Lubick, ?I?ve never had anybody like him.?
Lubick also paid praise to Van Pelt, whose three-yard run with 4 minutes, 59 seconds left in the second quarter, put the Rams ahead to stay, 17-14.
?Bradlee was exceptional tonight,? said Lubick.
Van Pelt opened the scoring three minutes into the second quarter with a 13-yard run. Jeff Babcock?s career-best 48-yard field goal put Colorado State ahead, 10-7 midway through the second quarter.
Van Pelt?s three-yard run later in the quarter put the Rams ahead, 17-14. He then hit Anderson with a four-yard scoring pass with a minute left in the third quarter to put CSU ahead, 23-14. Marcus Houston?s 12-yard run with three minutes, 29 seconds left in the third period closed Colorado State?s scoring.
Colorado State now takes a week off before returning to action Nov. 1 at Wyoming.
