The Colorado State volleyball team, ranked 20th in the country, completed the first half sweep of the Mountain West Conference by defeating Air Force 30-21, 30-22, 30-20 this evening. The Rams improve to 16-4 overall and 7-0 in league play, while the Falcons fall to 11-9 overall and 2-5 in Mountain West play.

Colorado State was led by junior outside hitter Becky Sarauer and sophomore outside hitter Tess Rogers with 10 kills each, while junior middle blocker Bri Frech hit .583 in the match (8-1-12). Both junior setter Melissa Courtney and junior libero Lindsey Kerr led the Rams with eight digs and Frech led all players with five blocks and three aces. The Rams hit .260 in the match and had seven aces and nine blocks.

The Falcons were led by senior outside hitter Delavane Diaz with 15 kills and six digs, while Molly White and Kristin Hamlett each had two blocks. Air Force hit .045 for the match and tallied three aces and four blocks.

?Bri had her second great match in a row for us,? said Head Coach Tom Hilbert. ?We really picked it up blocking wise in the last game and Casey did a great job off the bench for us with blocking. It was good to get two wins on the road. It was a tough weekend and I?m really pleased with the way the team played.?

Huitt started the match with an ace serve for the Falcons but Sarauer got a kill to knot the score. It was again tied at two when Sarauer stepped back and served an ace. The teams went back and forth and the score was tied at 9-9 when Courtney stepped back to serve and ran off six straight points to give the Rams the 15-9 lead. Air Force called its first timeout, but the Rams scored three of the next four to lead 18-10. The Rams went on to win 30-21 in game one, hitting .171, but holding the Falcons to .000. Frech led CSU with five kills and two blocks.

Diaz got two quick kills for the Falcons to start the second game, but the Rams scored four of the next five points, two off kills by Downs and two from Rogers to give the Rams the 4-3 lead. AFA again took the lead after two straight points, but Karlik served five straight for the Rams and the 9-5 lead. With the 16-11 lead, Frech served two straight aces and Air Force called its first timeout and scored the next two after the break for the 18-13 advantage. Six of the next seven points went to CSU, two off kills by Courtney for the 24-14 lead. The Falcons did not give in, scoring the next four points to pull within six, 24-18, but the Rams scored the final three points of the game, one a kill by Frech and another an ace serve for the 30-22 victory. CSU hit .417 in the game behind three kills by Rogers and Courtney and they held Air Force to a .182 hitting percentage.

Diaz again started a game with a kill, but Sarauer answered right away for a 1-1 tie. Down 3-2, CSU scored four straight points, two off kills by Rogers for the 5-3 lead. With the 8-7 lead, Rogers served five straight for the CSU for the 13-7 lead. Down 8-15, Diaz led a four-point run for Air Force to pull within three, 15-12, but Courtney served six straight to pull away, 21-12 and the Rams would go on to win 30-20. Both Rogers and Sarauer had five kills in the final stanza as the Rams hit .243 and held the Falcons to a -.025.

The Rams return home to face BYU on Sat., Oct. 25 and Utah on Oct. 26 in Moby Arena after playing the last three matches on the road. The match Sunday will be televised on CSTV and first serve is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
