Rams Looking For Winning Ways

Fort Collins, Colo. - Sonny Lubick has been coaching football for more than four decades.

Lubick, throughout his career, has always focused on one particular goal each season.

"A winning season is the most important thing about a season," he said. "That's what's most important."

It's also critical for the Rams, who enter Saturday's home finale with San Diego State with a 5-5 overall record and 2-3 mark in Mountain West Conference play.

Kickoff time at Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium is 1 p.m. The game will be televised by ESPN+Plus (KTVD-UPN 20 in Denver) and broadcast by the Colorado State Sports Network including KIIX (1410 AM) in Fort Collins and KNUS (710 AM) in Denver.

The Rams have enjoyed 9 consecutive winning seasons under Lubick ? a school record and among the longest streaks in the nation. During the same span, the Rams have won or shared 6 conference titles and appeared in 7 bowl games - both figures among the top streaks nationally as well.

The Rams want to extend the streak in 2002, but will have to defeat San Diego State and UNLV to close the regular season and become bowl eligible for a 10th season in a row.

The Rams face an SDSU team that is also 5-5/2-3. The Aztecs defeated UNLV, 7-0 last weekend.

"San Diego State has a great defense. I think all-around, they are the best defense in the league," said Lubick. "They are very consistent. They fly to the ball."

Saturday also marks the final appearances for 20 Rams' seniors. They will be introduced during pregame ceremonies.
