Courtney and Shirley Named AVCA All-Region

For the third time in four seasons, the Colorado State volleyball team had two student-athletes named to the AVCA All-Region West Team. Junior setter Melissa Courtney and junior middle blocker Katie Jo Shirley were both named to the All-Region squad, announced today by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

Courtney, a 5-9 junior from Lakewood, California, was named the Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Year, the conference setter of the year and the Mountain West Tournament Setter. She leads the team in aces per game, assists per game and is second in digs per game. She also ranks in the top 10 in the nation in assists per game.

Shirley, a 6-0 junior from Hayden, Idaho, leads the Mountain West and ranks in the top 10 in the nation in hitting percentage, hitting .418 on the year. Shirley was named to the Mountain West All-Conference team for the second straight season and currently has a string of 65 consecutive matches with a block.

Courtney, Shirley and the rest of the Rams will be in Gainesville, Florida for the Regional Semifinals where they will face Florida on Friday evening.
