Fort Collins, Colo. - Colorado State University's offense continued to impress head coach Sonny Lubick as the Rams continued spring practice with a two-hour workout Thursday.
"The offense has been playing well, and played well again today (Thursday)," said the 11th-year coach. "The first unit has been playing very well."
Lubick said quarterback Bradlee Van Pelt, the Mountain West Conference offensive player of the year a season ago, has played well throughout the spring. He said wide receivers Chris Pittman and David Anderson, along with h-back Joel Dreessen have been steady during spring workouts, as have tight ends Matt Bartz and James Sondrup.
"They're playing well. But we need to develop some depth. We're thin at some spots on both sides of the ball," said Lubick.
Lubick said the Rams' defense has played well, but has been hampered by several injuries.
"The first unit is doing well, but we have a lot of injuries," said Lubick. "That's curtailed the progress a little bit. But it has also given us a chance to work with the younger players, so that helps us build some depth."
Lubick said the Rams will take the holiday weekend off before returning to the practice next Tuesday to begin the team's final week of spring practice. The team will practice again Wednesday, then either Thursday or Friday before concluding spring workouts with an intrasquad spring game at Hughes Stadium on Saturday, April 26.
