Fort Collins, Colo. ? Bradlee Van Pelt?s 35-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Dustin Osborne handed the Green team a 21-17 win over the Gold in Colorado State University?s annual spring game Saturday at Hughes Stadium played before more than 2,000 fans.
Rams? coach Sonny Lubick said he was happy overall with the team?s performance throughout the spring, including Saturday?s game.
?I thought we had a lot of real good, quality things happened today,? said Lubick. ?I thought all the quarterbacks played well. I like the attitude of our football team. They played hard.?
Van Pelt completed 12-of-19 passes for 182 yards and a pair of touchdowns, hitting Osborne and Russell Sprague with scoring tosses.
Justin Holland, who led the Gold team, threw for 191 yards and a pair of scores, completing 14-of-22 passes.
One of Holland?s scores was a 49-yarder to Dexter, one of the team?s starting cornerbacks and a two-time all-Mountain West Conference performer as a return specialist. Wynn has worked during the spring as a wide receiver, and took Holland?s toss over the middle on a catch-and-run scoring play.
Lubick was also pleased with the team?s running game. Tristan Walker gained 88 yards on 11 rushes for the Gold team and Marcus Houston added 42 yards on just four carries including a 35-yard gain, while Rahsaan Sanders paced the Green team with 61 yards on 11 carries.
Lubick said Sprague, a senior from Holyoke, had a solid spring, as did safety Landon Jones and cornerback Lukas Davis, three individuals who caught his eye.
Lubick was pleased with the defense, including the secondary.
?We have five or six guys back there who can play. Now we have to be sure we have the right places,? he said.
