Fort Collins, Colo. - Colorado State University's football team is nearing the end of two-a-day practices as the team continues preparations for its opening game, Aug. 30 against Colorado at INVESCO Field at Milke High in Denver.
Under new NCAA guidelins, college squads can stage two-a-day drills every other day. Wednesday, Lubick put his team through a pair of workouts, with only one scheduled Thursday, then two more Friday.
"The last four practices have been pretty good," said Lubick. "The afternoon practice is a key: can they fight through two-a-days."
Lubick said another challenge for his squad is developing depth at several positions.
"We have to get depth on both sides of the ball. I'm not worried about the starters. I'm worried about the second and third-team players. You'd love to have 22 guys, but it seems we can't do that, so you hope to get 16 or 17. We also have to keep people healthy," said Lubick.
With that in mind, Lubick said he plans to limit live contact the rest of the way leading up to the opener.
Lubick also said to date, the Rams have been working against the team's own offensive and defensive sets. That's about to change. He said Thursday the Rams will begin facing Colorado's scheme on both sides in preparation for the opening game.
