Coach Hessel Signs Three-Time State Champion

Fort Collins, Colo. - Colorado State University head cross country coach Del Hessel announced Wednesday the CSU women?s cross country team added a three-time state champion for next season.

Kristen Hemphill, from Los Alamos, New Mexico, who was named the 2003 Gatorade Athlete of the Year, holds the New Mexico state record in the 1600 and is a two-time state champion in the 800 and 3200. The 2002, 2003, and 2004 New Mexico state cross country champion was also named the 2003 New Mexico State Meet High-Point athlete and the Albuquerque Journal Athlete of the Year for 2004.

?Kristen will come in and be an instant star for the women?s program,? stated Hessel. ?She will complement our other signee Chantelle Dron well and these two represent the future of our distance program.?
