Rams' Spring Game Set For Saturday

For players who have already earned one of the top spots on Colorado State University's football team, it's a chance to reinforce that issue with the Rams' coaches.

For players still battling for playing time, Saturday's intrasquad spring game is one more opportunity to catch the eye of head coach Sonny Lubick and his staff.

Colorado State will conclude spring drills Saturday with an intrasquad game at Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium. The game begins at 11 a.m. and admission is free.

The game will also be broadcast live by KIIX Radio (1410 AM) in Fort Collins. Rich Bircumshaw will call the play-by-play, Erik Olson is the analyst while Brian Roth provides sideline reports. Kevin McGlue is the producer and Randy Barnard is the studio engineer.

Lubick and his staff will divide the team Thursday. That evening, he and his staff will host a group of donors and boosters who are annually "drafted" as guest coaches for the spring game.

There's a new feature in conjunction with a spring game tradition scheduled Saturday. For more than 15 years, members of the school's Spirit Committee of the Greater Ram Club will host a pancake breakfast from 9-11 a.m. in Lot 4 southeast of the team tunnel entrance at the stadium. The breakfast is free and open to the public.

CSU athletic department officials will also be unveiling a spring version of the "Ram Zone" fan section at the game. The breakfast and other fan amenities will be located in the tent structure, a preview of what the department has planned beginning next fall.

The Ram Zone next fall will feature food provided by the Spirit Committee, pregame scouting reports by Rams coaches and an update from Director of Athletics Mark Driscoll. A portion of the radio pregame show will also originate from the Ram Zone at every home game, featuring interviews and game information.

A nominal fee will be charged for all fans entering the Ram Zone for food and drinks.

Following the game, members of the school's Greater Ram Club at the $350 level or higher will be able to hear a postgame report from Coach Lubick.

Colorado State has a pair of practices scheduled prior to the game. The team will workout Thursday and Friday, then finish spring practice with Saturday's game.
