Three Rams Chosen in NFL Draft

Three former Colorado State University football players including linebacker Andre Sommersell, quarterback Bradlee Van Pelt, and defensive back/return specialist Dexter Wynn, were chosen Sunday on the second day of the National Football League selection process.
Wynn, a senior from Colorado Springs, Colo. (Rampart High School), was selected in the sixth round by the Philadelphia Eagles (192nd pick overall). Wynn is a three-time All-Mountain West Conference selection who in 2003 was named to the first-team both as a cornerback and return specialist.
Wynn eight times in 2003 gained 100 or more return yards in a game. He finished his Ram's career second in career punt return average, 15.2, and thrd in kickoff return average, 27.2. Wynn in 2003 was fifth nationally and led the league in kickoff return average, 29.0 yards per attempt and was second in the MWC in punt return average, 11.1, and 28th nationally.
Van Pelt was chosen by the Denver Broncos in the seventhround (250th player selected). Van Pelt is a two-time first-team all-league pick who was selected as the MWC Offensive Player of the Year in both 2002 and '03. Van Pelt is one of only four quarterbacks in NCAA Division I history to rush for more than 2,00 career yards (2,274) and pass for more than 5,000 career yards (6,169). He is the school's career total offense leader with 8,443 yards, and set a single-season record by gaining 3,754 yards last year including a single-game record 416 in the Rams' game with Colorado.
Van Pelt is the first CSU quarterback to be drafted since Moses Moreno was chosen in the seventh round by the Chicago Bears in the 1998 draft.
Sommersell was an honorable mention all-conference pick. He was chosen by the Oakland Raiders (255th pick overall) and was a three-year starter as a defensive end for the Rams. He finished sixth on the team with 51 tackles last season, including nine for 31 yards lost and had two quarterback sacks. He helped the Rams earn a fifth consecutive bowl invitation with an eight-tackle performance in CSU's win over UNLV to conclude the regular season.
Colorado State has now had 17 players drafted since Coach Sonny Lubick's arrival in 1993, and more 30 who have played professionally overall.
Free Agents
Eric Hill, a wide receiver from Denver, along with defensive tackle Bryan Save from Santa Ana, Calif., both signed free agent contracts immediately following the draft with the Indianapolis Colts.
Save led the team in quarterback sacks and was a first-team all-conference performer in 2004. Hill was among the team leaders in receptions and earned honorable mention all-conference honors.
Wide receiver Chris Pittman, second on the team in receptions in 2004 and an honorable mention selection, signed a free agent contract with the Cleveland Browns.
