Offense Holding Upper Hand

Fort Collins - Colorado State University's offense held the upper hand for a second day in a row as the Rams continued preparations for the team's opening game Sept. 4 at Colorado.

"I though the offense kind of had the upper hand," coach Sonny Lubick said following a two-hour workout Tuesday morning, the team's lone practice of the day.

"They kind of had the upper hand yesterday (Monday), too," Lubick said.

Lubick said he and his staff have already implemented nearly all of the team's offensive and defensive schemes.

"Now, we have to clean things up. We have almost all of our offense and defense in."

Lubick said many battles for starting positions remain up in the air, including in the secondary, offensive line, and linebackers. He hopes to clear some of those up by the end of the week.

One other question that must be answered he said, is team depth.

"How deep are we? That is a little bit of a concern," said Lubick.

In an effort to shore up the team's depth offensively, he said Delroy Parke, a former defensive tackle, as moved to offensive guard.

Parke is a six-foot, two-inch, 290-pound junior from Encino, Calif.

"He will be a definite asset to the offense. He's been playing defense, but he could really help us in the offensive line. He will help us."

Tuesday's workout included a 10-minute live scrimmage. He said the Rams would follow a similar script Wednesday morning.

The Rams will practice twice Wednesday, once Thursday, twice again Friday and stage a single workout Saturday. School begins on the CSU campus Monday, Aug. 23. The team will practice each day once school begins at 3:30 p.m.

The Rams' opener with Colorado will be televised live nationally by Fox Sports Network at 6 p.m. Mountain Time. The game will also be broadcast live by the Colorado State Sports Network including flagship station KCOL (600 AM-Fort Collins) and KNUS (710 AM-Denver).
