Colorado State University's two-hour practice Monday morning may have been the Rams' best to date, head coach Sonny Lubick said following the workout.

"It may be our best practice so far," said the 13th-year coach following the team's first session in full pads. "It was a pretty good practice overall. It got hot toward the end, and that took a toll the last 30 minutes. But the first hour and a half was intense, and we got a lot done."

The session included a live "inside run" drill.

"I thought the offense may have gotten the best of it," said Lubick.

Lubick said he thought the team's running backs played well, but credited the offensive line with the success.

"Most of that (success) is due to the offensive line. The offensive line is getting a feel what we ask them to do. They came off the ball," he said.

He also said the team's defensive front played well, including end Jesse Nading, tackles Blake Smith, Erik Sandie and Delroy Parke.

"The defensive tackles have been solid. All three of those guys are playing well. We're starting to develop some depth."

Lubick said the Rams currently boast a host of experienced players, which makes for great competition for playing time.

"We all want to make sure though we have depth coming back, we want to put it all together. They (players) know there is competition. They know there are guys behind them pushing them."

Lubick said the team's defense took another injury hit Monday. Projected starting defensive end Terrance Carter missed Monday's workout after suffering a minor concussion Sunday, and is out indefinitely. Monday, Matt Rupp, who stepped in for Carter, injured his right hamstring.

"Rupp was having a good camp," Lubick said. "We hope to get him back in a week.

Tuesday, the Rams will not practice and will host Media Day activities at Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium beginning at 10 a.m. Lubick will provide a season preview at 11:30 a.m. to conclude the session.

CSU returns to the field Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. in the first of two workouts, with another scheduled at 4 p.m.

Colorado State opens the season Sept. 3 against the University of Colorado in Boulder. Kickoff time is 1:30 p.m. The game will be shown live by TBS, and can be heard on the Colorado State Sports Network including flagship station KCOL (600 AM) in Fort Collins and KNUS (710 AM) in Denver.
