Cross Country Heads to Notre Dame

Next Up: The Rams will travel to the Notre Dame Invitational, on Oct. 1st. This meet has evolved into one of the nations oldest intercollegiate cross country meets. This will be the 50th year the meet has been held.

Rams Picked Second, Third: The Colorado State women's cross country has been picked to finish second at the Mountain West Conference Championship, according to the league's head coaches, while the men's team was chosen third. The women received one first-place vote and 56 points to finish behind perennial favorite BYU, which received the other eight first-place votes and 64 points. In the national rankings, the BYU women are sixth, while the Rams are ranked 20th. In the men's poll, BYU and Air Force were chosen co-favorites, each with three first-place nods and 23 points, while the Rams are third with 17 points. The conference championship will be held on October 29 in Fort Collins.

Anthony Honored: The Mountain West Conference announced the first winners of the Athlete of the Week award for the 2005 cross country season and CSU freshman Kirsten Anthony was named the women's award winner. Anthony, competing in her first collegiate cross country competition, placed second at the Wyoming Invitational, clocking a 15:03.50 over the 2.5 mile course.

New Mexico Recap: The Colorado State women's cross country team finished second behind Adams State, while the men's team was third behind Adams State and Western State at the 2005 Lobo Invitational this afternoon.

The women's team was led by a trio of Rams -- sophomore April Thomas (22:39), freshman Kirsten Anthony (22:39) and junior Danielle Korb (22:41) -- who crossed the finish line 8th-10th, respectively, with just a two second gap between the three. Sophomore Heather Loseke placed 13th with a time of 23:07 for the six-kilometer course and freshman Kristen Hemphill rounded out the scoring with a 19th place finish. Also competing were sophomore Melissa Thomas, who finished 21st and freshman Chantelle Dron who placed 25th.

Senior Josh Glaab led the men's team with an eighth-place finish, running the eight-kilometer race in 25:14. Senior Paul Michel was 12th, while sophomore Jeff Wahl was 16th, freshman Scott Sanders was 19th and freshman Jeremy Freed was 20th. Also running for the Rams was Rob Watson in 21st and Nelson Palacios in 26th place.

The Ram women totaled 59 points, defeating host New Mexico by 30, while the men's team was third with 75 points.
