Cross Country Heads To Pre-Nationals

Men & Women Head To Pre-Nationals: For the first time since Sept. 9, both the men's and women's teams will be in action as the Rams head to Terre Haute, Indiana for the Pre-Nationals meet. The meet will take place on the same course as the NCAA Championships later in November. Most of the top teams in the nation will be present at the Pre-Nationals meet.
Women Move Up Two Spots: Behind the strong performance at the Rocky Mountain Shootout, the Colorado State women's cross country team is now ranked 22nd in the nation, receiving 112 points. Stanford remains the number one team in the nation, while the Buffs are second.
Women Second At Shootout: The women's team finished a close second to second-ranked Colorado, 20-38. Senior Nicole Feest, running in her first competition in 2006, finished fourth on the 5.8 kilometer course, clocking in at 21:24. Junior April Thomas also finished in the top 10, placing eighth with her time of 21:36. Junior Danielle Korb was 11th with a time of 21:49, while sophomore Kristen Hemphill rounded out the scoring in 15th place with her time of 22:02. Also finishing in the top 25 were sophomores Kirsten Anthony and Heather Loseke, placing 23rd and 24th, respectively with their times of 22:35 and 22:37. Freshman Renee Mayer finished 26th in 22:50, while sophomore Ashlee Velez was 43rd in 23:58, junior Danielle Rawlings was 50th in 24:11, freshmen Beth Dunfield and Kari Jansen were 53rd and 56th, respectively and freshman Gwen Golaszewski finished 66th.
Freed Honored: Sophomore Jeremy Freed ran a personal best time of 25:24.55 en route to a 27th place finish at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational. His time and finish earned Freed the Mountain West Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week honor. This is the first award of his career and the first time this season a Ram has been honored.
Men 16th At Roy Griak: The men's team placed 16th at the annual Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota. The Rams scored 384 points and were the top Mountain West finisher. Jeremy Freed finished 27th overall, posting a time of 25:24.55 for the eight-kilometer course. Senior Ryan Kirkpatrick was next for the Rams, crossing the tape in 79th place with a time of 26:05.80. Senior Nelson Palacios was 92nd and senior Rob Watson was 94th with times of 26:13.10 and 26:14.55, respectively. Sophomore Steve Swartz finished 111th in 26:20.80, while junior Andres Urbina was 125th in 26:26.20 and sophomore Jeff Wahl was 148th in 26:36.80. David Zakavec rounded out the team in 165th place with a time of 26:45.40.
Coach Inducted: First year head coach Bryan Berryhill will be inducted into the Colorado State Hall of Fame on Nov. 3. Berryhill was a 10-time All-American for the Rams, winning two NCAA titles during his career. In 2001, he won the mile title at the NCAA Indoor Championship, then won the 1500 meter championship at the Outdoor Championship. Joining Berryhill as inductees are Ivan Dyekman (track & field), Mark Mullaney (football), Angela Knopf (volleyball), Floyd Kerr (basketball) and Tom Hilbert (Hall of Honor).
