Colorado State University's football team continued to emphasize improving the running game during a two-hour workout Tuesday.
The Rams, 4-3 overall and 1-2 in Mountain West Conference play, entertain New Mexico Saturday in Fort Collins. UNM is 4-4, 2-2.
Saturday's game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. MST. The game will be broadcast by the Colorado State Sports Network, which includes KCOL (600 AM) in Fort Collins and ESPN Radio (560 AM) in Denver. There is no television coverage of the game.
"We have to get the running game going," said Rams' coach Sonny Lubick. "If we can get some space, I think we could get some things done."
Lubick said one of the problems has been continuity in the team's offensive line. Only senior tackle Clint Oldenburg has started every game, and CSU has used four different starting combinations in seven games, and seven different players have started at least once.
"We need to try and get some continuity in the offensive line" Lubick said. "It seems like we just keep losing people."
The latest casualty is center Nick Allotta, who was injured in last week's game at Wyoming and is doubtful for Saturday's contest.
The Rams will also face a New Mexico defense that has proven formidable in past years.
"New Mexico has had great defenses and excellent players," Lubick said. "They have the same scheme. They give you a lot of bad plays."
Saturday's game is also "Band Day". More than 500 band members from high schools across the region will be in attendance.
In the days leading up to the game, fans who bring a Mountain Dew soft drink can displaying CSU's 2006 schedule on the side can purchase one ticket to the game and receive a second one free.
Following Saturday's game, the Rams are back home Nov. 4, playing host to BYU at 4:30 p.m. in the school's annual Hall of Fame game. Six individuals who are being inducted into the hall of fame during festivities Friday night will be honored during halftime activities.
