Fort Collins - Colorado State University's football team went through a two-hour workout Wednesday as the Rams continued spring workouts for the second time this week.

Following the workout, Rams' coach Sonny Lubick said he's pleased with the progress his team has made.

"I thought today's workout went pretty well," said Lubick following the session. "We seem to be doing some things better. I think we've got a chance to be pretty good in the secondary. I think we have more players, some guys who can help us."

The Rams return a pair of starting cornerbacks from last year's squad, Darryl Williams and Robert Herbert. Herbert has missed the first two workouts with a recurring leg injury. Williams started 10 games a year ago. Top reserve Brandon Cathy, who started a pair of games, also returns.

But the Rams must replace starters at both safety positions. Travis Garcia and Miles Kochevar both started all 12 games a year ago and must be replaced.

Sophomores Mike Pagnotta and Klint Kubiak are leading the chase to replace the departed starters. Both Pagnotta and Kubiak played on special teams a year ago and saw extensive duty as reserves in the secondary.

Lubick praised his team's work ethic.

"This has been a good group to coach. They enthusiastic and they are working hard," he said.

The Rams return to the practice field Thursday at 4 p.m. It will be the first time the Rams will be in full pads. Colorado State will then take Friday off before working out at 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
