Fort Collins, Colo. - The Colorado State football team conducted its first live scrimmage of the spring Saturday morning at the CSU football practice field in Fort Collins. The one-hour scrimmage consisted of approximately 30 plays each for both CSU's first and second teams.
The offense scored twice on the day, the first on an eight-yard run by Kyle Bell on the opening drive, capping a nine-play 70 yard start to the scrimmage. The second score came on a Kevin McPeek fumble recovery in the endzone after Rashaun Greer fumbled after a 28-yard reception from quarterback Billy Farris at the 14-yard line.
CSU's defense caused two fumbles on the day, both recovered by the offense, while recording three quarterback sacks in the scrimmage.
"It went well for the first scrimmage", commented head coach Sonny Lubick following practice. "Our ball security was real good and I was impressed with the way Caleb (Hanie) ran the first offense. We got what we wanted out of practice today."
CSU is scheduled to continue spring drills next Monday, Wednesday and Thursday before taking next weekend off. A brief scrimmage is slated to take place in next Thursday's practice.
