Sonny Lubick put his Colorado State University football team through one of its longest workouts of the preseason Tuesday, a practice that lasted more than two hours.
"We had a long practice," Lubick said following the session. "But it was good. We devoted about 30 minutes to working against Weber State, and we'll continue to do that and increase it the rest of the week."
The Rams open the season Sept. 2, playing host to the Wildcats at Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium. Kickoff is 3 p.m. Tickets are available through CSURAMS.com.
Lubick said he and his staff have been viewing Weber State's videotape from games played last season. WSU is coached by former Utah mentor Ron McBride, a coaching colleague of Lubick's.
"I know they have an excellent quarterback, and are picked to be one of the top teams in the Big Sky, which is a good I-AA conference. I know that Coach McBride will have them ready to go. We'll have to play hard."
Lubick said the Rams will return to the field Wednesday to continue preparations for the opening game.
Lubick Tuesday joined CSU President Larry Penley and their respective CU counterparts at a downtown Denver luncheon to promote the Sept. 9 in-state rivalry game. More than 500 individuals attended the event including boosters and donors supporting each institution, plus members of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce.
